Helena Caldeira is a Portuguese actress, singer, and creator whose work bridges tradition and contemporaneity. Rooted in the landscapes and voices of Alentejo, she transforms stories of peasant women into songs that weave together folklore, acoustic instruments, and electronic soundscapes. Her debut album, ABALAR, emerges from the concert-performance CANTADEIRAS, conceived as an ode to women, the countryside, and cultural memory—celebrating traditions while provoking them through a contemporary lens.
A graduate in Theater/Acting from ESTC, Caldeira debuted with her performance Ginógenese in collaboration with painter Manuel Casa Branca, and co-founded the cultural association O Bestiário in 2018. She has collaborated widely in theater, including Gus Van Sant’s musical TROUBLE (with The Legendary Tiger Man), and gained recognition on screen in Netflix’s Rabo de Peixe. With ABALAR, she now affirms her voice as both performer and storyteller, where each song is a lived narrative.
