PASSA AO FUTURO'S TESTIMONY

Passa Ao Futuro extends its deepest gratitude for the support POR:TA provided to our 2022 Summer School Programme. POR:TA’s generosity has played a pivotal role in bringing this initiative to life, and we are profoundly thankful for your unwavering commitment to advancing education and community development.

In a time when many university programs focus on aesthetics or product-oriented approaches, the Summer School Programme aimed to guide a new generation of makers towards embracing design processes over mere products. With Por:Ta’s support, we successfully facilitated a hands-on experience, an essential component in the education of aspiring designers and students.

This design-build program not only strengthened the age-old traditions of building and craftsmanship but also seamlessly integrated digital tools and computer simulations. The participants honed their design skills through practical experience in fabrication, working with materials, and engaging in the construction process itself. The technology employed ranged from high-tech methods such as digital fabrication techniques and environmental simulation to the timeless art of lo-TEK (Traditional Ecological Knowledge), as represented by collaborating with skilled basket-weavers in wicker and cane weaving.

Organized by Passa Ao Futuro in collaboration with the University of Évora, Escola de Artes, and Arteria_Lab, this groundbreaking program would not have been possible without the generous support of POR:TA, Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, and Interreg España-Portugal.

Once again, we extend our sincere gratitude for Por:Ta’s instrumental role in making this initiative a success. Your support has not only impacted the education of young designers but has also contributed significantly to the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and modern design techniques.

Thank you for believing in our vision and being a crucial partner in fostering creativity and transmission of knowledge.

Passa Ao Futuro Team.
