TAI SHANI
Turner Prize Award Winner Tai Shani is a multidisciplinary artist, whose practice encompasses performance, film, photography and sculptural installations, frequently structured around experimental texts. Taking inspiration from disparate histories, narratives and characters mined from forgotten sources, Shani creates dark, fantastical worlds, brimming with utopian potential. These deeply affective works often combine rich and complex monologues with arresting, saturated installations, manifesting equally disturbing and divine images in the mind of the viewer.
POR:TA ACTIVATION:
Co-commission of post-production of a film adaptation of a one-night performance chamber play called "My Bodily Remains, Your Bodily Remains, And All The Bodily Remains That Ever Were, And Ever Will Be" which was commissioned by Art Night and the Museum of London and performed at the legendary night club, Fabric in Smithfields, in October 2022.
The film will be screened at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation followed by a conversation between Tai Shani and Bianca Chu.
Other co-commissioners include CAC Cincinnati, KM21, and Art Night, using public funding by Creative Scotland and the Henry Moore Foundation, with additional support from the Luminous Foundation, The Southbank Centre, and Museum of London with support from Arts Council England.
TAI SHANI'S TESTIMONY
It was a pleasure to work with the POR:TA team to bring my latest film My Bodily Remains, Your Bodily Remains and All The Bodily Remains into being. I felt extremely supported in bringing my vision to life in the film as well as its public presentation and in-conversation at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
